Combat Shells are the classes in Deadlink. There are currently three combat shells Soldier, Hunter, and Engineer, being the classes you choose before starting a run. Soldier is unlocked by default, Hunter requires you to complete ten combat encounters, and Engineer requires you to "download data at Watts-Rucker labs" to unlock (see below for specifics on unlocking).
Each combat shell has a primary weapon, secondary weapon, primary ability, and secondary ability, and they each have their own unique Combat Shell Upgrades and weapon mods.
Soldier[]
Shotgun | GripWire Rappel
Rocket Launcher | Scrambler |
The default combat shell, equipped with a Shotgun as a primary weapon, and Rocket Launcher as a secondary weapon, GripWire Rappel (also known as the grapple hook) primary ability, and Scrambler secondary ability.
Hunter[]
Hand Cannon | Translocator
ARC Cannon | Decoy |
The second combat shell, equipped with a Hand Cannon primary weapon, Arc Cannon secondary weapon, Translocator primary ability, and Decoy secondary ability.
Hunter is unlocked after completing 10 combat encounters.

The CSA deploys military grade drones, dubbed "Combat Shells", carrying copies of elite special forces agents. Even AGI AIs can't match a human's prowess and ingenuity - skills evolved over millions of years in the most competitive Darwinian hell.
They are upgradable with salvaged cybertech, as well as disposable and deniable, with no way to trace them back to the Agency. Used to clear out office buildings, factories, laboratories and bodyhacking operations, they disrupt criminal corps even if they fail, with more always waiting to be deployed.
